I fully support the suspension and modification of Nationwide Permit 21. My occupation is forestry and I have a B.A. in Agriculture. The practice of filling headwater streams by the mining industry or any industry for that matter is completely detrimental to water quality and associated ecosystems. It also negates local water sources for human use and creates public health problems for local populace. It is a practice that has no redeeming quality as it relates to life and the sustainability thereof and should not be permitted under any circumstances. With the resources we have access to we can find healthier and more sustainable methods to achieve extraction of coal. Surely we can maintain economic growth and be responsible socially and environmentally. Water is our most important resource. Without clean water, life will perish.
