The Consumer Product Safety Commission's proposal of a rule to specify that children's upper outerwear garments in sizes 2T to 12 or the equivalent that have nec or hood drawstrings, and in sizes 2T to 16 or the equivalent that have waist or bottom drawstrings that do not meet specified criteria, have characteristics that constitute substantial product hazards. The drawstrings have been involved in numerous deaths and serious accidents from the item being entangled with playground equipment, cribs, and school buses.
The purpose of the proposal is to facilitate a greater understanding about the dangers of this product, and corrective actions for companies who do not adhere to the standards. I think that this proposal should be accepted and implement. It will help to protect children from something that seems to be harmless. Clothing companies should be made aware and responsible for the potentially harmful effects of their products.
