Having a daughter of my own that wears clothing that would be affected by this, I fully support and defend this proposed rule. I applaud those manufacturers that have met the call with the voluntary standard. The numbers provided in this proposed rule give factual data that the standard is indeed a life saver. Since the age of children affected by this ranges up into the teens, it is fair to say that these aren’t children that will have an adult by their side every second of the day. Between playgrounds at the park or recess at school, it is easy for kids to go down a slide and not have an adult there in case an incident should occur. According to the proposal, slides were the leading contributor in injuries and deaths for the upper body garments and were still a factor (though not the leading cause) in lower body drawstring injuries. I truly hope that everyone involved takes this proposal seriously.
