I fully support the CPSC proposal for docket # CPSC–2010–0043. As a society we need to increase our awareness for possible hazards to children of all age groups. Products such as drawstrings on clothing for small active children present increased hazards as child care provider/child ratios continue to change in day cares and schools. I would recommend supporting a rule that included clothing smaller than the 2T, as children start walking at earlier ages and are just as susceptible to injuries from these products. An additional recommendation would be to not have draw strings in the pants of these age groups at all, but an adjustable elastic band inside the waist band. This would allow for the child's growth and safety, preventing possible accidents/injuries from dangling/loose strings. If the waist band string is back tacked, this still presents a safety hazard. As the garments are laundered, the stitching is worn and comes loose. In addition as the draw stings are utilized (pulled for use) this decreases the integrity of the stitching (back tack). Preventing these issues would be to utilize adjustable elastic inside the garments.
