Consumer Product Safety Commission (Docket No. CPSC-2010-0087) Petition Requesting Regulations Restricting Cadmium in Children’s Products Regulations limiting the amount of cadmium used in items intended for children should be a priority. Your commission has previously reduced the amount of lead allowed in children’s items and also limited the use of cadmium in painted toys but a toy is a toy. A child’s toy, painted car or jewelry, will eventually find its way into their mouths to be chewed, sucked and sometimes swallowed. It is no secret that cadmium is toxic. It is a known carcinogen and can cause kidney, lung and bone damage. The dangerous cadmium secret was revealed to the general public when Chinese made jewelry was pulled from several popular stores. I am an average citizen, a mother, a wife and I had no idea what cadmium was until I learned about it on the news. Our children depend on us to care for them and keep them safe. The American population depends on you to take action against products that will endanger them and keep them safe. Please do not let us down. A concerned mom
