I am a college student and an active duty solider. My wife is also an active duty solider and possess 3 Master's degrees. Both of us are reasonably confortable with tools and read and follow directions provided with all of our children's items. We have both experienced issues with play yards collapsing unexpectedly. Different models and different brands. We both believe that play yards need to have a more strigent level of safety standard in order to protect children. Many parents use play yards as a child's sole crib since they are much more inexpensive than a full size crib and lend themselves so well to travel and other activity. With that in mind, safety standards need to be set as high as possible. In addition, many of the attachments that now come with the play yards can be quite dangerous, even if the directions are followed. Most noteably the changing attachments that have no way to secure the baby.
