Sirs: I am opposed to government regulations which would require a flesh-sensing stutoff mechanism on consumer bench saws, contractors saws, table saws and cabinet saws. There are many other protective devices and safety proceedures wihich will prevent saw injury. It is the responcibility of the consumer/user to read, understand, and follow safety instrucitons and the safe use of power tools. It is not the Government's responsi9bility, or even their priveledge, to protect consumers from their own stupidity, lack of training, or carelessness. May i suggest that efforts to prevent loss of life and life-treatening injury (such as regulating use of distractive devices such as cell phones while driving) would have orders of magnitude more impact than imposing knee-jerk restrictions on millions of woodworking machine users who should not be forced into paying significantly more for a oriduct required to incorporate one particular manufacture's safety device. e.g. Saw-Stop. Maybe we should require all pencils come with a tennis ball point protecter to prevent the thousands of injuries to eyes and linbs each year by misuse of sharpened pencils. Get real!
