The issue of saw blade safety must be addressed and the imposition of new safety regulations are a great step to improving the overall safety of the table saw. Although the resulting change in the regulation will in fact increase the price of the average table saw the increase in price will be far less than the price of an emergency room visit or the resulting increase in insurance premiums. In the table saw market there in one technology that is at the forefront in safety SawStop is amazing it uses an electrical current that is passed through the blade that detects any changes in the resulting field when contact with anything other than wood is detected. When the safety feature is engaged the blade is immediately stopped and retracted away form the direction of motion. This is a excellent feature and I believe that technology of this nature should be incorporated into all new table saw models. SawStop is just one manufacturer and by no means am I suggesting that all manufactures use this brand specifically but similar technology. Changes in the table saw industry must come about to protect the consumer, why not incorporate a proven safety method to protect all consumers not just the few that can afford the new advances in safety.
