When modern technology grows and expands for the public’s benefit then our medical plans must also grow and expand for the public’s benefit. Morbid obesity is a growing concern in today’s society which posses a significant health threat. The extra weight puts stress on the body, raises your risk for diabetes, stroke, heart disease, kidney disease and gallbladder disease. All proposed regulations amending the requirements and procedures for treatment of morbid obesity must be considered with the TRICARE beneficiary’s best interest as a top priority. New guidelines need to be established to determine an individual’s eligibility to receive procedures to treat morbid obesity. When more accurate measures become available or recommended by the medical profession to determine morbid obesity then the requirements for treatment must also be evaluated.
