On behalf of the Oregon Housing Acquisition Project, I offer the attached
comments and recommendations regarding the Department of Energy
Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) for Low-Income Persons. The state of
Oregon is deeply committed to preserving its inventory of thousands of federally
subsidized rental units and has allocated significant resources toward that
mission. These units house many of the state’s lowest income families and most
vulnerable populations including seniors and disabled citizens. Many of the
buildings in the portfolio are now 30 or more years old and are in need of
significant weatherization and energy efficiency upgrades. WAP funds are an
invaluable resource that will help maintain and preserve these affordable homes for
the long term. Thank you for the opportunity to provide written comments and for
your consideration of these recommendations.
