Dear Mr. Mills,
The Town of Sugar Hill is opposed to the Northern Pass Transmission line as currently written. The proposal seems wedded to the century old above ground technology. The issue of using underground lines is not addressed and was summarily dismissed at an information session in our town two weeks ago. Advances in technology have made this feasible and it is the new norm in Norway and other European countries. We strongly encourage you to consider this option if the plan must go through.
Our communities are dependent on tourism and this line would disastrously impact the scenic beauty of our pristine mountain views, hills and woods. It would dramatically lower land values. It does not benefit our area by lowering utility costs. It would not improve local employment. There is grave concern in town of the potential health impacts.
As we are on the cusp of developing new sources of energy from solar and wind, it seems extremely short-sighted to invest in cheap Canadian power that will cripple New England's energy diversity and increase the country's dependence on foreign energy.
Thank you very much.
Margaret Connors, for the Sugar Hill Select Board
