DOJ should make it mandatory that Segways are protected as a mobility device
WHEN USED BY A PERSON WITH A DISABILITY. The regulatory structure
should be something like the service animal rules: Segway+PD equals protected
mobility. It would be even possible to allow venues to inquire as to whether a
person has a disability.
I once tried to take my (then 4) daughter to Disney, and was turned away the
night before when I was told that I couldn't go unless I RENTED one of their
wheelchairs. I only feel disabled when I'm told that I can't take my Segway into a
place of worship, recreation, etc.
FYI- I'm an active-duty Army officer and lost a leg in Iraq in 2005. I can
stand for
indefinite periods, but can't walk well.
