As the rule states more centers are moving toward Next Generation equipment that will allow for the receiving of various types of equipment. However, it should be noted that the biggest issue is not with the 9-1-1 centers but rather with the telephone carriers. I have had one major carrier tell me that no matter what type of equipment is purchased they have no plans to provide 911 texting, video etc. AT&T also stated in a national annoucement that they will not provide that information to the 9-1-1 centers and that people should simply dial 9-1-1. This rule needs to address the ridiculous stance that the major carriers are taking at this time reference this issue or else mandating that 9-1-1 centers have the equipment will be meaningless.
