As the owner and operator of a small resort in northern Michigan, I would very much support the proposal being considered to allow for a 6 month extension to install an ADA compliant pool lift in order to clarify and allow for further input on best to meet the requirment without undue financial or operational constraints. We are fully prepared to purchase a portable lift that meets all the requirements, but the January 31 DOJ opinion put that in question and therfore have not moved forward. Also the stance of not being able to share a lift between a pool and a hot tub is not workable for us. We do not have space or the finances to purchase 2 lifts. Further, the lack of usage would not warrant a second unit. It is extremely rare that we would ever have the opportunity to use even one lift, but when we do, there would be no problem utilyzing it for either the pool or hot tub. (We may get 2 or 3 people all year that would utilyze this lift).
Please give the extension so that all the issues can be considered so that we don't unduely penalize small businesses but allow us to meet the intent of the standard which is to provide access to all people. Thank you.
