Docket No. OAG-131
Dear Mr. Hinchman:
I am writing in support of the standards proposed by the National Prison Rape Elimination Commission (NPREC). It has been said that a good test of a civilization is how it treats its weakest. Obviously, those in prison are not weak but they are dependent upon society, and how they are treated during incarceration not only impacts their chances of reform, it impacts society as a whole.
Sexual abuse in prisons and jails is a crime, no matter who is the victim. The NPREC report standards provide concrete, well-researched methods for prisons and jails to prevent, detect, and prosecute rape.
Please do what you can to insure that the standards are enacted for the entire federal prison system.
Sincerely,
Ann Hirou
