public comment on federal register of 3/7/07 vol 72 #44 rin 1400-ac28
pg 1095 22 cfr part 51 public notice 5712 passports
l. a personal visit to get a passport should ALWAYS BE REQUIRED. NO MAIL IN
APPLICATIONS FOR PASSPORTS.
2. THE FEE FOR A PASSPORT SHOULD BE INCREASED BY ONE THOUSAND
PERCENT. WHY SHOULD THOSE WHO NEVER TRAVEL HAVE TO PAY FOR
THE FEW WHO DO TRAVEL BETWEEN COUNTRIES. THE FULL COSTS OF
THIS SHOULD BE BORNE BY THE TRAVELERS. THESE PEOPLE COULD NOT
TRAVEL IF THEY WERE NOT WEALTHY AND WELL ABLE TO AFFORD
PASSPORT FEES.
3. appointing so many different agents to give passports is the height of folly in
trying to have a secrure country. the post office IS NO PLACE TO GET A
PASSPORT. IT IS THE MOST INAPPROPRIATE PLACE I CAN THINK OF. THE
COUNTY CLERK SHOULD NOT BE ISSUING PASSPORTS. SHE HAS NO WAY
TO CHECK ANYTHING AT ALL. VERIFICATION IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
I THINK PASSPORTS ARE BEING ISSUED FAR TOO EASILY. THE SYSTEM IS
CORRUPT AND INEFFECTIVE AND NEGLIGENT AT PRESENT.
THIS NOTICE DOES LITTLE TO NOTHING TO MAKE SURE PASSPORTS MEAN
SOMETHING. AT PRESENT THEY ARE AS EASY TO GET AS TURNING ON A
WATER FAUCET. THAT IS ABSOLUTELY STUPID AND DANGEROUIS TO
AMERICA.
