Comment on DOS-2009-0384-DRAFT-0002

With the growing number of potential exchange students, and the poor economic conditions in the United States, a portion of the recommended changes to this regulation are strictly inhibiting the potential for foreign students to gain the positive, firsthand experience of life and business in the United States. With the proposed changes, I would not be eligible to be a host family because I am a single adult. I am a well-educated, financially secure, working American citizen that would enable a foreign student to learn the way of life and business in the United States. This could be a life changing experience for both the student and me by learning new ways of life and appreciating cultural differences. I feel as though it is best to have a single adult to be a host family for exchange students because I would be able to focus my attention fully on the student and assist him/her in adjusting and understanding any cultural differences whereas a family with multiple individuals will have less time to truly dedicate themselves to helping an exchange student to fully experience the United States.
