If it is costing the Federal Government more to process passports, it is also costing us acceptance agents more. New rules that require us to photocopy both sides of primary identification and to mail applications via a trackable mailing service cost us more money.
Several years ago, the acceptance fee was reduced from $30 to $25 dollars. Our costs have continued to increase as wages and benefits have increased, not to mention the increasing responsibility of checking primary ID, ongoing training and making sure applications are correctly executed.
We are your primary contact with citizens. We gather the information that you work with. I feel raising our fee to $40 would not be out of line. An adult passport would then cost $150. total for a first time applicant.
Sincerely,
Patricia Rosand
Clallam County Auditor, Acceptance Agent
