I live overseas and travel quite a bit. I am not happy with the massive passport fee increases of the last few years. BUT the one thing that I think is unfair and unnecessary is this $82 fee to add pages to a full passport. Why all of a sudden do you want to charge a very high amount of money for something that has always been free? This is just not right. What if someone runs out of pages while traveling and does not have enough funds or finds it a hardship to get $82 to add more pages? Are they going to be stranded until they can come up with $82?
If this fee is enacted, I expect a huge run on US embassies worldwide(myself included) to get more pages added in free before this $82 fee in enacted. I would also assume many who unexpectedly received the 24 page passports in the US will do the same. Whoever came up with this idea to charge a high amount for adding pages in a passport probably does not travel much and was not thinking of the possible hardships this could cause frequent worldwide travelers.
