I am writing to oppose the requirement that summer visitors in the Summer Work Travel Job Placement program work a minimum of 32 hours per week. The purpose of the program is primarily for foreign nationals to travel in and learn about the US. In a time when many US employers have limited numbers of part-time summer jobs available, they will be unwilling to guarantee extra hours to foreign nationals. In addition, my understanding is that the foreign nationals themselves would rather work part time so that they can spend time learning more about US culture, which is the point of the program. If it is necessary to have a minimum work requirement, I would suggest 20 hours per week as more normal for a part-time job.
