I would like to suggest the inclusion of intergenerational considerations in the incentive methodology of the health-contingent employee wellness program matrix. The existing proposal allows for an ‘up to 50% of premium’ incentive for employees that participate in a smoking cessation protocol as part of their overall wellness program. This is an excellent addition as smoking-related comorbidities account for a disproportionate amount of preventable chronic disease.
I propose that programs that include the family members of employees in their wellness activity programming be incentivized ‘up to 40% of premium’ to encourage all insureds - workers and their company insured family members - to make positive and lasting healthy behavior modifications. Lifestyle-related chronic disease accounts for the greatest expenditure of healthcare resources. Studies have demonstrated that by including the insured family members employees in their employee wellness programming, employers can realize an even greater long-term return on their capital investment. This inclusion would provide employers, and employees, with 30%, 40% and 50% of premium incentive options. Thank you.
