As a US citizen and a consumer I fully support the proposed rule to further examine the test procedures for microwave ovens to measure standby mode and off mode power use. These testing standards can help increase energy conservation and help regulate products more fairly. Having more standard testing for microwave standby mode and off mode power use will provide additional information for consumers on energy consumption and allow them to save money on energy costs by selecting the most energy efficient models. These tests will allow the Federal Trade Commission to have much further insight into the energy use of microwave ovens.
