I strongly support the proposed changes to Tier 2 to encourage introduction of
more light-duty diesel vehicles in the U.S.
Furthermore, the "weekend ozone effect" studies suggest that VOCs are more
important ozone precursors than NOx. Diesels are inherently very low in VOC
(NMHC) emissions and have near-zero evaporative VOC emissions. Therefore, I
anticipate a net positive influence on air quality with increased diesel market
penetration, not to mention the diesel advantage in CO2 emissions.
Any provision which encourages manufacturers to introduce additional diesel
models is to be commended.
