Greenhouse gases are a great concern to many these days and both the government and private sectors are searching for ways to reduce their emission. Carbon sequestration, or carbon sinking, is one method that promises to help in this effort.
Carbon sequestration is not without risks, however. The process of sequestration is still being developed and long term impact on our environment is not known. One possible risk is inadvertent, uncontrolled release of Co2 as occurred in Cameroon in 1986; killing nearly 1700 people. Because of this danger I support the EPA’s effort to require companies that conduct carbon sinking to report where and how much is being stored. Without this reporting it would be impossible to keep track of risk areas.
