Thank you for setting the upper limit of light vehicle fuel efficiency standards at 62mpg. That is a great step toward reducing America’s dependence on oil, which in turn will have a positive impact on our national security - however it is not sufficient. I expect the final ruling to be as close as possible to 62mpg and that the EPA will pursue every option available to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. I hope that you will be equally ambitious in your ruling for mid-to-heavy grade trucks. These are the biggest gas guzzlers on the road, and dramatically improving their gas mileage would mean keeping hundreds of billions of petrodollars out of our enemies’ pockets and minimizing America’s contribution to climate change. This is a serious issue for our soldiers, our veterans, and all Americans. Thank you again for your efforts thus far to protect America with clean energy policies, and I look forward to a strong fuel efficiency ruling in the coming weeks.
