RE: Docket number: EPA-HQ-OPP-2005-0162
Carbofuran, is known to be a powerful neurotoxic, cholinesterase-inhibiting,
chemical insecticide. It was registered by EPA for crop use, for more than two
decades. Its status, however, had been regularly challenged by environmental
groups and scientists because of serious side effects on wildlife and potentially
man. Reports from the US Fish and Wildlife Service, of its killing endangered
species (including Bald eagles), of the chemical's inherent neurotoxic nature --
highly toxic orally and by inhalation -- as well as its potential to reach
groundwater, and other considerations, strengthened the case for its cancellation
over the years. However, prior to August 2006, only the granular form of
Carbofuran was banned by EPA (for certain uses).
PLEASE SEE TO IT THAT THE FINANCIAL PRESSURES DO NOT WIN OUT
OVER COMMON SENSE. TOTALLY BAN THE USE OF CARBOFURAN IN ALL
ITS VARIOUS FORMS.
