I am very much against re-registration of carbofuran. I have read that one study showed that fields sprayed with carbofuran actually had higher weevil population after three years than non- spray fields due to the fact that it is broad-spectrum and also killed beneficial insects. I am very much against the re-registration of carbofuran due to its devastating effect on honey bee population. The EPA owes more to the bee industry and to feral bee colonies than to re- register carbofuran. The data shows that there has been a "60 percent decline in managed colonies over the last 50 years and a 90 percent decline of feral colonies over the last 20 years with pesticide damage a major contributor to these declines." * With numbers like this it would be highly irresponsible to re-register carbofuran.
