Prairie dogs are an important component of our Western ecosystems. If
they are causing a problem in certain localities, they should be
strategically removed by selective means. Inhumane and nonselective
poisons like Rozol have no place in a modern wildlife management
program. The decimation and tainting of non-target species such as
game fowl, and the threat to rare animals and raptors are too high a
price to pay for the convenience of poison.
I ask that the EPA immediately ban the use of Rozol (chlorophacinone)
grain bait to exterminate prairie dogs. It's continued use is like
using car bombs to eliminate pick-pockets in a crowded city. No native
species should be exterminated, anyway. Please find other ways to
balance priorities, manage the resources, and maintain the multiple
values of our lands.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Thomas Stewart
