To Whom it may concern,
I appreciate the opportunity to express my concerns about the potential loss of Resmethrin in mosquito control applications. In Tennessee, Southern Alabama, and the Florida panhandle Resemethrin is a very important chemistry that is utilized in areas of extreme mosquito pressure, environmentally sensitive areas, and where West Nile Virus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis, and other vector borne illnesses are present. It is most often used to complement a programs resistance management strategy or utilized as a "fall back" product when desired efficacies are not achieved with cheaper formulations. Resmethrin yields excellent efficacy on difficult to control species, many of which are known carriers of mosquito borne illnesses listed above, while exhibiting favorable environmental properties.
We need every possible tool to not only maximize effectiveness but to maximize the effectiveness of all chemistries. Being overly dependent on any one chemical compound increases the opportunity for resistance in treatment populations. Please consider any measures possible to extend the registration of Resmethrin and help us prevent the loss of another extremely important chemistry.
