I like the pamphlet very much because it speaks directly to renovation and
remodeling activities and directs homeowners to ask very specific questions of the
contractors they hire to perform such work. I found, though, on page 7 of the
pamphlet, After the Work is Done, that information about performing a clean-up
verification is weak. I went back and found that it is mentioned earlier in the
pamphlet but I think it would be helpful to spell out that it is the contractors'
responsibility to follow the detailed instructions for cleanup described in the
Lead:Renovation, Repair, and Painting Program Rule, dated January 10, 2006. The
wording now gives the impression that it is the homeowners' responsibility to do
this. I don't know if the average reader will pay such close attention to what is
written in the pamphlet that they remember that cleanup verification was
mentioned earlier in the pamphlet. Even professionals in the field of lead poisoning
will have to familiarize themselves with this new procedure for clearing a property
for reoccupancy. Other than this point, I am impressed with the pamphlet.
