Page 1 ? Lead and Your Health: Fourth bolded heading: - Change this sentence to: ?Lead gets into the body when it is breathed in or swallowed.? The original wording of the phrase ?swallowed or breathed? is awkward. - Add a third bullet stating the following: ?In addition to children, pregnant and nursing women are also at an increased risk for poisoning when lead dust or fumes are present.? This statement should be included because pregnant and nursing women are also at high risk for lead poisoning. Page 2 ? Where Does the Lead Come From? First Paragraph: - Change the fourth sentence to: ?This dust may accumulate to unsafe levels.? The original statement: ?This dust accumulates to unsafe levels? is not necessarily going to be true in all situations. Page 4 ? If You Choose to Use a Contractor: Second paragraph, first bulleted sentence: - Add the following statement: "Ask the contractor to show you the copy of the course completion certificate to verify that he or she has been properly trained to do the work." This statement is needed because the contractor should be able to provide documentation to the resident. It does not seem sufficient to simply tell the resident that he or she is a certified contractor. Page 6 ? While the Work is Happening: First paragraph: - Add the following to the beginning of the first sentence: ?The contractor (or resident) should??. Second, third and fourth paragraphs, add the following phrase to the beginning of the bulleted sentences: ?The contractor (or resident) should??. This phrase should be added to the above paragraphs to clarify who is going to be responsible for the stated tasks. Third paragraph: - Add the following statement prior to the last sentence: "In addition, using chemical paint removers can be dangerous because some are flammable and contain toxic solvents, so directions for using chemical paint removers should be followed carefully." This statement should be added in addition to the other methods of paint removal that may pose a health hazard. General Comment: The pamphlet does not clarify who is responsible for which tasks during the preparation, work, and cleanup activities. Clarification is needed as to who (the contractor or the resident) is responsible for which tasks.
