Methanol turns into formaldehyde in the first step of its metabolism in the human body. Therefore it should be considered a source of formaldehyde. Perhaps the most dangerous source of formaldehyde due to its ability to penetrate the blood brain and other barriers that prevents preformed formaldehyde to reach vital organs.
