This is extremely alarming to me that the Environmental Protection Agency would
seriously consider the boating industry, expecially in regards to private boat
ownership to be permitted under the NPDES permit. Yes, the NPDES permit is
there to help keep our waters clean, but it is a Storm Water permit. Are we to
really regulate our boating inidustry with Storm Water permitting?
If the EPA would like to actually get SERIOUS about cleaning up our waters to
where they are fishable and swimmable, then it is far time to stop listening to the
two areas that are the worst lobbied in our industry. Agriculture and Oil and Gas.
If you can clean up those two industries related to water quality standards, you will
find that you can acheive the standards that you would like to meet, as these two
industries account for more pollution than all the rest of the NPDES permittable
industries do.
It is time to address the 500 pund gorilla in the room, instead of continuing to push
more and more regulations down the citizens throats. If this passes, you can
certainly anticipate the boating industry to take a major hit. We need less
government, not more. Regulate the industries at fault, and not those that are
going recreational fishing or boating.
