I believe it essential to enact stricter water quality rules for the State of Florida. There are many reasons for doing so, but to me, one of the most vital is to reduce the incidence of red tide algal blooms. I have suffered from the ill effects, as have thousands of Floridians, and am very aware of the economic hardship caused by closure of shell fisheries by red tide. The fishing and tourism industries, as well as the health of all visitors and residents, depend on enforcing reduced nutrient loads entering our coastal waters.
