Ildefonso Acosta
EPA Region 2 NPL Coordinator
Dear Mr. Acosta:
I am writing in support of adding the Dewey Loeffel toxic waste site to the Federal Superfund National Priorities List.
The site is one of the largest in the state with 46,000 tons of toxic waste. There is significant off-site contamination of private drinking water wells and Nassau Lake. I am especially concerned about the people who unknowingly eat the PCB-polluted fish in Nassau Lake and its tributaries, as many people are unaware of the state fish advisory warning. I am also concerned about the residents whose wells are polluted from the toxic groundwater plume.
The residents of Nassau need a health-protective cleanup of the site and the off-site contamination. I strongly support adding the site to the Federal Superfund. Thank you for considering my comments.
