I live in SLC, Utah and in the area designated as a possible cleanup site for a ground plume of tetrachloroethelyne--the dry cleaning solvent. The contaminated area in SLC is comprised of older-home neighborhoods; as such, many of the homes were built with sandstone foundations quarried from nearby canyons. Since the foundations are made of stone (specific stone prone to degradation) and older compositions of loose mortar, and that the water table in much of that designated area is at a low level, it could be possible that the area's residents are receiving contamination especially when spending time in their basements. Many basements in the area have been remodeled for extra bedrooms or family dens.
