Adding these 16 chemicals to the list of toxic chemicals subject to reporting under section 313 of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) is warranted and will result in the safety of United States Citizens. Adding chemicals to the list based on the years of research by the National Toxicology Program. Of the sixteen proposed chemicals, all of them are “reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen” and are used currently in the United States. By adding these to the EPCRA reporting chemical list, firefighters in communities which have them chemicals will be better informed of them and their possible carcinogenic effects. Industries using these chemicals will now have to report their use and pay added administrative fees to states, increasing funding to Local Emergency Planning Commissions thus enabling better planning and preparedness for the communities they serve. As a firefighter and Hazmat Technician, I know firsthand the hazards chemicals pose and the need for increased planning and preparedness.
