John M. Mooney,
This reponse is directed at the proposal to require reformulated gasoline in Southwestern Ohio at an increase in cost. Statistics show it would probably be an increase of 13 cents or more per gallon. The economy in this area would be negatively effected, an economy which is already suffering from inflated gas prices.
The proposal would not help the pollution problem and the reason is very simple. Interstate 75, one of the most heavily traveled highways in the country, and I 71, both of which connect to many other interstate highways, go through this area. We are on the main route from Canada and Michigan to southern destinations such as Atlanta and Florida. The pollution in this area comes from vehicles traveling through to other destinations, and unless reformulated gas is required in the rest of the country, requiring the change in this small area will have very little if any effect on pollution.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Donald Asplan
