I am a resident of Kootenai County, Idaho. I am in favor of allowing the practice of
field burning, particularly the grass fields on the Rathdrum Prairie. When I moved
to the area years ago, I was aware of the practice and still chose to live in an area
where the wind carries the majority of the smoke. I feel that it is unfair to place
restrictions on the grass farmers who burn their fields during a relatively narrow
window of time when the general public is allowed to burn slash, yard waste and
wood stoves nearly year round. I feel that the opposition to agricultural burning is
from a small yet very vocal group of recent transplants who should have done their
due diligence before moving to the area, rather that moving here and and then
trying to change the character of the area to something it is not.
Sincerely,
Mike Henkoski
