I just had radiograph (x-ray) testing done on the struts from our 2 F22 Taylorcraft
airplanes. These planes were s/n 2202 and 2203. The first plane, s/n 2202, was
the prototype F22 and was built in 1987 the second plane, s/n 2203 is the 1st
production F22 and was built in 1991. The x-rays of the 8 struts showed
absolutely no rust. The struts were made of 4130 chrome moly steel.
I request that all F22 Taylorcraft airplanes that are not now nor ever have been on
floats or skis be exempt from the requirements for periodic retesting if the initial
test shows no evidence of rust. The initial test should be a terminating action for
the AD and eliminate the need for further testing.
I believe that further testing may result in more risk than benefit to these planes.
