Although the idea of ADS-B appears generally a good one, I'm unclear on the costs to GA pilots and aircraft owners like myself. Unless we are shown evidence of the low cost of the mandatory equipage stemming from this rule, it is hard to support the change -- at least a mandatory one. In short, how much will this cost me to continue flying my Cessna 172 in and around B airspace? On the other hand, an optional (at least for GA) offering that provides benefits to pilots (TIS, WX, etc.) might spawn the market for manufacturers and lay the groundwork (and evidence of cost-benefit) for a mandatory rule in the future.
