ADS-B is such a superior improvement to safety in the skies it is inconceivable
to me that the FAA would delay its implementation. If one considers the number
of non-commercial aircraft able to be flown in the United States it would stand
to reason that competition from various avionics manufacturers would bring the
price down. That being said, please don't do something stupid and have an
unreasonably short timetable for manufacturers and owners to build the devices
and schedule their installation. No point in having plane to plane information
with no aircraft in the skies!
I also think the FAA has to be quite comprehensive in its requirements of who
installs this equipment. It wouldn't make sense to have any segments of the GA
or biz aircraft population exempt. I often fly into uncontrolled airports with
scheduled airline service or regular biz aircraft movements and think that no
type of flying should be exempt. Safety for everyone in the skies should be
paramount particularly as we move into a time when the glass cockpits and steam
gauges coexist over the various categories of flying.
