Lufthansa states the following:
During inspections per MSG-3 MPD (D6-82981) item 54-322-01, for which the LH
and RH pylons have to be removed, DLH observed several instances of corrosion
or damaged chrome plating of the midspar fuse pins. Defective pins have been
replaced. Therefore DLH support the necessity for repetitive inspections of the
fuse pins. However, DLH want to comment on the compliance time for initial and
repeat inspection:
Initial inspection threshold:
The NPRM states that the initial inspection has to be done
- within 180 months from the date of issuance of the original export certificate of
airworthiness
- within 180 months from date of previous pin replacement
- within 24 months after the date on this service bulletin
DLH advise that after inspection per above mentioned MPD item each midspar
fuse pin is inspected per the applicable AMM procedure. DLH feel that the
inspection of the fuse pins per AMM provides the same level of safety as the
inspection of the bolts per SB 737-54-1044. Therefore the inspection per MPD 54-
322-01 should be acceptable as initial inspection in accordance with the SB.
