Ever since the initial communication from Eclipse regarding the condition of
carbon build-up above FL370 with air flow valves in the HIGH position, I have
adopted a policy of MONITORING THE PRESSURIZATION SYNOPTIC TO
VERIFY THE VALVES REMAIN IN THE LOW FLOW POSITION. Although
setting the cabin temperature to 68F or less assures you the flow valves remain
in
the low setting, the valves also stay in the low setting at higher cabin set
temps
based on a variety of factors, most notably, outside air temp and solar gain.
Monitoring the valves provides the pilot with positive information regarding
the
operation of the valves.
The FAA should adopt a more reasonable and less intrusive policy until the
airframe/engine manufacturers come up with a permanent solution: FOR FLIGHT
ABOVE FL370, THE PILOT WILL SET THE CABIN TEMP NO HIGHER THAN 68F
UNLESS MONITORING THE AIR FLOW VALVES TO ASSURE THEIR
OPERATION IN THE LOW FLOW CONDITION.
The current blanket prohibition of all flight above FL370 is unnecessarily
restrictive.
