This is a request to use different wording in Paragraph (i). The use of “before further flight” seems to contradict the intended compliance timeframes established in Paragraphs (g) and (h). As an example, in December 2009, Comair determined which serial numbers are affected by the two different service bulletins and at that time had no compliance with Hamilton Sundstrand service bulletin “24-5”. This was performed through a records review. The way Paragraph (i) is worded, compliance is due at the time of that determination.
I believe the intent of Paragraph (i) is when the ADG is deployed in order to inspect the data plate for the symbol “24-5”, if it discovered not complied with, before further flight, comply with the service bulletin.
The following wording change is suggested; wording added is in bold.
(i) If the ADG serial number determined in paragraph (g) or (h) of this AD is identified in paragraph 1.A. of the applicable service bulletin listed in Table 1 of this AD, within the timeframe determined in (g) or (h), do an inspection to determine if the symbol ``24-5'' is marked on the ADG identification plate. A review of airplane maintenance records is
acceptable in lieu of this inspection if the symbol ``24-5'' mark can be conclusively identified from that review.
By leaving “before further flight” in Paragraph (i)(2), the intent is not compromised.
