This Airworthiness directive should be recinded as the bulletin referenced within the A.D. is no longer supported.
A NEW Airworthiness Directive regarding the mandatory requirements to comply with the new Lycoming Service Bulletin 342E should however be issued to inspect the fuel injection lines. Lycoming Mandatory Service Bulletin 342E compliance is not required to be complied with under the current F.A.Rs for Part 91 operators. Operators and mechanics by enlarge will ignore compliance with bulletin 342E if they are not compelled to accomplish the service bulletin to comply with an Airworthiness Directive. The airworthiness directive on this fuel line alerts mechanics and owners to the SB 342E and the need to inspect it.
A.D.s are checked at each required inspection, Service bulletins are not. The fuel injection line design has not changed and is still a potential danger if not properly inspected and maintained. Lycoming should also incorporate the contents of SB342E within their maintenance manual in addition to being in the service bulletin.
