Request: Allow use of alternative Corrosion Inhibiting Compound during repairs.
Justification: NPRM Paragraphs (w) and (u) referred to BSB 737-53A1210R3 Parts 7 and 8 which in turn referred to Figures 10 and 24 respectively. These Figures gave instructions to apply CIC BMS 3-23 Type 2 when completing repairs.
Boeing has qualified newer CIC BMS 3-35 that are compatible with BMS 3-23 as shown in Boeing D6-82560 R6 Corrosion Prevention Manual, General Information, 20-60-00 Standard Preventive Maintenance Procedures, paragraph 4.E on page 14.
However, Boeing currently has no plans to add said CIC in their FAA Approved repair document such as D6-38246 R076 Structures Repair Manual, 51-20-01 General Protective Treatment of Metallic and Non-Metallic Repair Parts, paragraph 8 on page 11.
Adding such allowance in the final rule would avoid operators having to seek seperate AMOC.
