Amendments to Class B Airspace: Salt Lake City, UT

Re: Docket No. FAA-2011-0438 & Airspace Docket No. 11-AWA-4: Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to amend the boundaries of Salt Lake City’s Class B airspace. I am writing to comment on the proposed modifications to Salt Lake City's Class B airspace. I oppose the modifications on the grounds that it will make flying VFR in his vicinity more difficult and decrease the safety of such flying. By raising the ceiling height from 10,000 MSL to 12,000 MSL it will make it much more difficult for small VFR flights to transition the class B airspace. This will mean more VFR craft trying to fly under and around the airspace resulting in a more congested flying area. In addition this will be occurring adjacent to mountainous terrain and other hazards. As a private pilot I recognize this as increasing the risk of flying in this area. I come to the SLC area a few times a year in a private plane and have both flown over and around the Salt Lake City airspace. Please consider the overall impact to the GA flight community in this proposal and rescind to recommendation to expand the Salt Lake City class B airspace.
