I think it is a positive changed to allow a pilot to update the navigation data base as currently restricted as only a maintenance function requiring a certificated technician. Please consider the fact that pilots are highly trained individuals that have experience with working high-tech equipment and this would just be one additional function required from the pilot interfacing with a device he/she already has operational knowledge. This action would also free up the mechanics that work on our planes to perform other duties more related to their specialties.
