Rolls-Royce have issued 72-AG456 rev 1 which allows the boroscope inspection to be carried out from either side of the combustion liner for operator convenience and as a double check if there is any doubt about cracking or the length. The EASA AD Allows use of 72-AG456 rev 1, so can the FAA AD also allow this.
Some US operators may already be carrying out this inspection and so believe they have a 2000 cycle re-inspection interval. Can the FAA AD give credit to operators who have already carried out the inspection with respect to the 1000 cycle initial inspection unless the “already done” paragraph (e) covers this.
The EASA AD allows the 04 module to be boroscope inspected when it's removed from the engine but is not being stripped, so giving an opportunity to restart a 2000 cycle on-wing life before the next inspection or if cracked the opportunity to replace the FCL. Can the FAA AD also give this option ?
The FAA AD requires the FCL to be boroscoped even if it is being stripped and can be visually and FPI inspected as part of the maintenance manual activities. This additional boroscope doesn’t seem necessary.
